Why this stop matters
Union Pacific has been headquartered in Omaha since the railroad's 1862 charter under the Pacific Railway Act. The city is the eastern anchor of the original Transcontinental, the terminus most associated with Lincoln's signature on the act, and the place from which UP track has reached west — and now back east — for more than 160 years.
