What’s happening at this stop

This is a brief whistle-stop, not a display: 4014 is scheduled to pause near 1st St./Avenue A and Ferry St. in Leetsdale in the early evening for about half an hour on its westbound run back toward Cheyenne. There is no organized viewing area, no ticketing, and no cab or up-close access — it is a chance to watch the locomotive at a crossing, not to walk up to it. Times can shift with the day's operations.

Why this stop matters

Leetsdale stands on the north bank of the Ohio below Pittsburgh, on land surveyed for Revolutionary War veteran Daniel Leet in the 1780s. The railroad came early: the Ohio & Pennsylvania opened its line down the river valley in 1851, and one of its first trains ran through on the Fourth of July, bound for the Harmony Society's utopian town of Economy just upriver. That line was folded into the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago and then the Pennsylvania Railroad — the great trunk route from Pittsburgh to Chicago.

Today it is Norfolk Southern's Fort Wayne Line, and 4014 stops in town alongside the river it follows west.
