This is a brief whistle-stop, not a display: 4014 is scheduled to pause at the East St. crossing in California for about fifteen minutes in mid-morning on its westbound run across Missouri. There is no organized viewing area, no ticketing, and no cab or up-close access — it is a brief trackside view, not a walk-up one. Times can shift with the day's operations.

Why this stop matters

California, the seat of Moniteau County, sits on the first railroad built west of the Mississippi. The Pacific Railroad of Missouri, chartered in 1849 to reach from St. Louis toward the coast, ran its first train in 1852 and pushed west past Jefferson City later that decade, putting California on its main line to Kansas City. Reorganized as the Missouri Pacific in 1872, the road grew into one of the great systems of the middle of the country.

Union Pacific absorbed the Missouri Pacific in the early 1980s, so the old MoPac main that 4014 runs through town on is now UP's own — the road that carries the tour across Missouri.
