What’s happening at this stop

A brief whistle-stop, not a display: 4014 is scheduled to pause at Topeka's Great Overland Station around midday for roughly half an hour as it enters Kansas. There is no ticketing, no organized viewing area, and no cab access — it is a trackside view of the locomotive. The restored 1927 depot building nearby is a local landmark. Expect the timing to shift with railroad operations.

Why this stop matters

Topeka was the headquarters and shop town of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway for over a century. Rival to Union Pacific across much of the West, the Santa Fe shaped Kansas's economy and architecture as decisively as UP shaped Nebraska's. The shops at 21st & Adams employed thousands at their peak.
