What’s happening at this stop
This is the centerpiece of the entire tour: 4014 on display at the Philadelphia Navy Yard on the Fourth of July, marking the nation's 250th birthday in the city where independence was declared. The locomotive stands on the Mustin Yard tracks at Intrepid Avenue and League Island Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 4, and remains on view July 5, joined by Union Pacific's commemorative locomotives.
Admission is free and no ticket is required. It is a ground-level view in a working rail yard — no cab access, uneven footing, and big holiday crowds — so arrive early and plan to wait.

Why this stop matters
Philadelphia is where Pennsylvania Railroad — for decades the largest railroad in the world by revenue — was chartered in 1846 and headquartered at Broad Street Station. PRR's standardization of locomotive design and operating practice influenced every other US road, including the western lines that ran the Big Boys.
The Fourth of July stop lands in the city where the Declaration of Independence was signed, during the nation's 250th-anniversary year — about as charged a setting as a touring locomotive can have.
